Call-out for support, to come, to the occupied area of Notre Dame des Landes (france) to organise against the coming evictions.…

about the occupied area of Notre Dame des Landes (NDDL)
‑call-out-

two years ago, in the area set aside for the construction of a new airport, we reclaimed the land and the houses left abandoned. Two years, to occupy, live, organise ourselves, think, chase off contractors, surveyors, soil-sample drillers and other ‘experts’. Two years to meet, make links, plot against the world, and see the military and helicopters pass.

Today, many of the occupied areas have been convened to appear in court in preparation of a massive eviction. If we are here, its to not leave this place free for them to destroy, control, and concrete over. To make them understand that they are not on conquered land. Whereas the evictions which are being prepared will be a martyrdom or ‘victory’ for them, for us it will be a fiesta: a fiesta because we know that they won’t chase us away with a bulldozer; that they can destroy our houses, burn our cabins, we will stay. We will stay and this struggle will continue.

about the trial.…
the 11th august, many areas have been convened to appear in court in Nantes. We hope to get a delay. The 17th august, the other occupied areas will be judge in the court of Saint Nazaire. We are calling for a mass gathering / demo in front of the court house of Saint Nazaire from 8am the 17th august. Also, from the 16th to 19th august, we invite everyone to the squat ‘les planchettes’ (directions given later in text) to meet, discuss and organise.

.….and then we will be evictable.…

as soon as we know the date given by the judge, we call everyone to come on mass to support the evictable areas. From the 17th, keep an eye on our website zad.nadir.org (mostly in french, we will try to keep news updated in english also, otherwise use internet translator, sorry…) to know the coming dates. we will need as many humans, energy, material, good ideas etc. as possible to defend the area and resist the evictions.

we are already organising to welcome as many people, and to create a strategy where all kinds of defence tactics can find their place.

and from now.…
from now, if you are available and motivated, you can come and have a look at the area, imagine and brainstorm with your group what is possible to do, to help us skip/find as much material as possible, and to stay as long as you like. As there is a lot to think about, to discuss and organise, we will not always be as available as we’d like, but everybody is welcome, and for info there will be someone everyday to do a ‘welcome/info’, at the planchettes, from 12 — 14:00.

For all those who’d like to come see the area and what’s going on, for all those who have already been here and are linked with this struggle, its now or never. we need you.

faced with those who would destroy spaces of living and organising; faced with builders of airport and other such bollocks: organise the resistance!!

directions to squat ‘les planchettes’: hitch-hiking from Nantes: from the city centre, take the tram line 2 to the last stop, which is called Orvault Grand Val. From the tram stop, walk straight on down the hill, under the highway bridge, and you can start hitch-hiking at the roundabout directly in front of you. the first village you want is ‘Orvault Bourg’, from there take the road towards ‘La Paquelais’, once in La Paquelais, at the north end of the village you will pass through a roundabout, go straight ahead, after about 300metres is a fork in the road, take the road on your left going towards ‘Fay de Bretagne’ (D281). After about 3–4km, you will see a very obviously squatted old house on your right.…for road directions, you can search ‘les planchettes, notre dame des landes, france’ on google maps. The D281 runs between the villages La Paquelais and Fay de Bretagne.…

We are looking for all kinds of material to barricade and to hold out in case of long evictions.… here is a list of things which can be brought to ‘les planchettes’, between the 16th to 19th of August or any time before (and after, if we are still there, keep an eye on Nantes Indymedia or zad.nadir.org, we’ll try to keep updated in english too, otherwise in french):

This is the first time we have sold kids meal tickets and hopefully this will cover the cost of meals, but we may need to ask for help if this is not enough to cover our costs.

Even those without children can help by with cooking and washing up in the kids space, please volunteer if you can.

Games and activities

During the morning (approx 10 am ‑noon) there will be activities and workshops for kids in one of the workshop spaces.

In the afternoon (after lunch), there will be games in the top meadow for children and adults together. Again, any help with these very welcome — just ask the collective/kids space crew.

Public Transport

The site is easily accessible by public transport, you can get the train either to Diss or Norwich and then catch the bus route no 1 (Simmonds) from Diss to Norwich. Or you could walk or cycle — it’s only 1.5miles away from Diss train station. Please come by public transport if at all possible! .

We will run pick-ups from the train station for anybody who can’t use the bus service or for larger groups of people. If you need a lift please let us know well in advance (and not in the middle of the night, when you’re at a train station somewhere!). !

Wheelchair users intending to use Diss station will need to book assistance with the train operator. There are no lifts so station staff have to assist mobility impaired customers across the track. Apparently the station is not manned 24 hours a day and the gate for the crossing is kept locked — so do phone and book to be sure .We have been told the bus service includes some low-floor buses with easy access for pushchairs, people with mobility impairments etc.

Hitch to Norwich or Diss; from Norwich hitch south on the A140 to Dickleburgh. It is then a 3 ‑4 mile walk or hitch to the site; on the Dickleburgh bypass (don’t go into Dickleburgh village) is a right turn to Shimpling and Burston; follow this road through Burston village, past the village green and out of the village. There is a sharp left turn, then down a hill to a sharp right turn. Site is on the right just over a little brick bridge.

From Diss either walk or bus, or carry on up the A140 to the turning on the Dickleburgh junction as above (only this time the junction is on the left).

Solidarity with Marie Mason and Eric McDavid — ELF actions in Moscow region of Russia

01.06 we torched electrical measuring and control devices in 2 underground service booths of a water communication system that brings hot water to a military intelligence site in Butovskiy forest. To add to the fact that this infrastructure serves military personnel, more than 800 trees were cut during earthworks for this water supply line to even appear in the forest. To hamper service brigades further, we also spiked the road they use for maintaining the system.

05.06 we torched an excavator at a highway construction site west of Moscow (Volokolamsk direction).

06.00 and 10.06 we expropriated some construction equipment and destroyed geologists’ measurement posts in the glades of Butovskiy forest.

11.06 we broke into yet another underground service booth and put to fire all the digital and analogue devices and tools inside.

We dedicate these attacks to Marie Mason and Eric McDavid. We don’t have an honour of personal acquaintance with them, but their dedication to protecting our Planet and conscious choices they’ve made not only to act, but also to stand their ground in the wake of state repressions, inspire us and help us to continue on our path.

Season of the Climate Trials

RATCLIFFE ON TRIAL ‘SHOW OF SOLIDARITY’

Outside Nottingham Crown Court

RATCLIFFE ON TRIAL ‘SHOW OF SOLIDARITY’
9am, 22nd November
Outside Nottingham Crown Court

Next Monday 20 activists begin their long awaited trial. Accused of conspiring to shut down Ratcliffe on Soar power station, they don’t deny this was their intention. However they are pleading Not Guilty on the grounds that they planned to act to prevent loss of life and serious injury caused by climate change.

With the trial due to begin Monday morning, we are asking supporters from far and wide to congregate outside the Crown Court at 9am for a Show of Solidarity before the trial gets underway. You don’t need to bring anything but yourselves, and we will be inviting you to hold banners reading “I’d Stop Emissions Too”.

We ask for a calm presence that doesn’t disrupt the trial. But the more attendees the better. This is the culmination of an exhausting 18 month process for the defendants, who face a maximum sentence of three months in prison. A big show of support would make their day.

Get booking your travel, or organise a mini-bus with your local group. For more information, email info@ratcliffeontrial.org

See you next Monday,

THE INSTANT INFO BOARD: PRINT IT OUT, STICK IT UP

A few of the Ratcliffe on Trial supporters have been hard at work over the last few days, putting together an “instant info board”. This 8‑page document explains, briefly, the various different aspects of the trial, the context, the necessity defence and how to help. We’d love it if supporters around the country could print it out and stick it up in your local social centre, students union, workplace or anywhere else you can think of. Thanks!

MANCHESTER AIRPORT ON TRIAL

In May 2010, seventeen people staged a protest/direct action at Manchester Airport, temporarily shutting it down. They did this to stop some of the 5 million tonnes of carbon emissions that the airport is responsible for annually and in opposition to plans to destroy local homes and biodiversity spots to expand the World Freight Centre.

Mission:

17 people are now facing two trials as a result of this action. 11 people will be tried for ‘obstruction of the highway’ in Dec 2010. The remaining 6 will face a trial in early 2011.

Update:
On 25 November 2010, the Copenhagen District Court found Stine Gry Jonassen and Tannie Nyboe guilty in charges of being organisers and instigators of violence and vandalism. The incident took place on 16th of December at Bella Centre last year during the climate summit in Copenhagen. The two women were sentenced to four months of probation. One out of three judges disagreed with the verdict and thought the women were innocent of all charges.

Stine Gry and Tannie Nyboe both acted as spokespersons for the Global Network “Climate Justice Action” (CJA).

During the Cop15 last year, CJA organised several non-violent civil
disobedience protests, including the “Reclaim Power — Push for Climate Justice” rally on 16th of December. The two women were both the public faces of the movement and they are now found guilty in charges of being organisers and instigators of violence and riots. They are both deeply shocked by the outcome of the trial and are now considering an appeal.

A community fights on against the invasion of the bulldozer empire.…

And as the empire grows, the community must also grow, and look for those to join the fight.…

For over 40 years, a storm cloud has been gathering, 25km north of the city of Nantes, France, over a rural area of farms, fields, houses, marshlands and forests. As an integral part of the massive expansion of the so-called “eco metropole” of the grand-ouest, the local government has been buying up an area of over 1860 hectares of land to make way for the construction of a so-called “high quality environmental” project a new airport, highway bypass and tgv train line. This zone is officially known as the “ZAD”, “Zone d’Amenegment Differè, and by us who resist as the “Zone A Defendre”.

Since the announcement of the plans, local residents and farmers have organised their resistance through petitions, demonstrations and a tractor occupation in the centre of Nantes. In spring and autumn ’09, the area was in a state of military guard, as 150 military cops were sent out to protect machines involved in the early works of core drilling and soil sampling. This is not a normal course of action; rather it was the response of the local government to acts of sabotage that occurred earlier on during the works.

In September ’09, after a climate camp in the ZAD, a call was made to occupy the abandoned houses and threatened areas of the ZAD, with support of local people in resistance to the airport. This call has been answered, and already there are some 13 occupied areas on the ZAD, including empty farmhouses, caravans on abandoned land, forests and collective gardens. On July 15th 2010, authorities delivered papers to 5 occupied areas, warning the occupiers that they should vacate these places by the 30th July or face legal proceedings and evictions. Earlier that day, an agreement was signed by 5 unimportant bureaucrats to finance the construction of the airport. On 29th July 2010, about 40 people occupied the council offices in Nantes. The next day, it was made public that the multinational construction company Vinci had been awarded the contract to build the airport. Already the first works have begun on the Barreau Routier, a highway bypass being built to serve the airport. In August 2010 the city of Nantes made public their search for a security company to be on constant guard on the construction sites and areas around the ZAD.

But we won’t be moved so easily. Busily growing food to support us over the next years, looking for further areas to occupy and building defences within the ZAD, we are digging our heels in even deeper and preparing for the fight.

If you would like to join, or even come and visit, we are always open. There are many houses, fields, trees, caravans that are to be occupied and defended when the time comes. If you have your own project to contribute, like setting up a new space, garden, action ideas, or any other useful resources or talents, even better. We are encouraging people to try and be as self sufficient as possible within this space, as well as wanting to be inspired to become part of this ever growing struggle against the machine of progress. Or if you can’t come and visit us, maybe you feel the wish to visit some sites or offices of Vinci in your area.…..

Wish list / ideas of stuff to bring.… bicycles and trailers, tarps, tools, building and barricading materials, climbing materials, computer and technical skills, wheelbarrows, rope of all kinds, books, vans/trucks, media resources, ideas, inspiration, fighting energy, donkeys, dragons and dentists.….

Trashing, dashing, bashing, mashing: the new EF! Action Update

So what have you been up to the last few months? Just hanging around?
Maybe you’ve been part of human wheel-clamping aeroplanes, climbing up scaffolding tripods inconveniently placed in the road, smashing machines at open-cast mines, playing nuked-dead in the street, kayaking against borehole drill rigs in Ireland, burning mobile phone masts, resisting Tesco, camping against trashing of woodland, with some success at Titnore (& other protest camp updates), or getting in on BP’s act, spilling oil in public places.

Or have you been on holiday, taking part in indigenous blockades against logging, dams and mining, spilunking against high speed trains, slashing tuna cages, blockading Monsanto HQ, trashing GM fields, and more?

Maybe you’re in need of a break. But if you’re not, and are just champing at the bit, the return of AUntie MIffy’s problem page might help, addressing what to do if there’s no local group near you. There’s an article about the beginnings of EF! in this country, looking forwards to the next 20 years, to help inspire. If you need support to get things going where you live, do get in touch. And if all that’s not enough, here’s a quotation, from Paul Watson, the Sea Shepherd captain:

“Future generations will not have the chance and those that came before us did not have the vision nor the knowledge. It is up to us — you and I.”
