Arson attack on cars of the German Railway Service (Deutsche Bahn)

Berlin, 22 of January 2009

a claim we received:

„Attack the handymen of the nuclear-lobby

Before the Castor’s transport 2008 took place, several railways line have been sabotaged through hookclaws in France and Germany. Shortly afterwards, 9 comrades have been arrested in France, accused of membership within a terrorist organization and of being responsible of the sabotages.
One of them is still in prison.

It is not a new thing, that in France one inprison activist upon antiterror laws. Already in January 2008, it came to the imprisonment of five persons, described by cops and press as part of the „ultraleftists, anarcho-autonomen“ movement, and they are waiting since then for their trial, in the dungeons of the french justice.

Such a way of proceeding seems to be a strong trend within european authorities responsible for the security issues. Also the german state security works a lot on its terrorist-construction, which newly landed in a trial against alleged members of the Militant Group.
In Greece, 13 youths are sitting in prison since the beginning of the December insurrection, also confronted with the antiterror paragraph.

That is why on the 22 of January we torched 5 cars of the Deutsche Bahn during the action week for the Tarnac 9.

As long as the Deutsche Bahn will keep on offering its railways for the nuclear transport, they will remain always a target of our protest.

Solidarity means attack

Six Nations group stops work at Eagle Place housing site in Brantford, September 16, 2008

A Six Nations group blocked an attempt to begin work Monday on the site of a new housing development at Erie Avenue and Birkett Lane.

Up to 30 members of the Haudenosaunee Men’s Fire gathered at the site of a 99-home subdivision at about 6 a. m. and didn’t leave until early afternoon.

Their efforts prevented city work crews from beginning work to provide servicing to the site, which is one of five designated no-go zones in bylaws passed by the city and an injunction obtained in Ontario Superior Court prohibiting activities that stop construction work.

“We’re required to be here. It’s our duty to be here, ” said native spokesman Dahwehido:geh, also known as Phillip W. Skye.

“This land is part of the Eagle’s Nest Tract. It has never been surrendered, ceded or given up and it’s our duty to protect it.

“We’re here to make sure that no shovel is put into the ground.”

As he spoke, Skye had a replica of the Two Row Wampum draped over his arm.

He said development of the site would damage the area’s eco-system and he encouraged city officials to move away from developing vacant land.

Arrests spark Six Nations blockade in Caledonia, September 02, 2008

Yesterday morning, Stephen Powless, 43, and two teens were arrested in Brantford for allegedly being on the construction site at the Hampton Inn on Fen Ridge Court, next to the Kingspan Insulated Panels development site from which they are barred.

Police said the trio are under a court order to stay away from the land and were all charged with breach of a court order and mischief.

Clyde Powless, a spokesperson for Six Nations, said the arrests were a “catalyst” for the blockades, but that the community is also frustrated by the slow pace of land claim negations with the provincial and federal governments.

Six Nations people block job site over land dispute, July 14, 2008

BRANTFORD, Ont. — Tensions over native land claims in Southern Ontario flared again Monday morning as a protester blocked a cement truck’s access to a building site and then allegedly assaulted a police officer.

The disagreement in Brantford stems from plans to build an insulation factory and headquarters on land that is subject to a long-outstanding native land claim.

“We’re continuing to monitor the situation. The underlying issue here is a 200-year-old land claim against the federal government, so the federal government needs to accelerate the negotiations leading to a resolution of this issue,” said Greg Crone, Mr. Bryant’s press secretary.

The Six Nations claim ownership of the area as part of a historical treaty that they allege was not properly honoured. The local government received a temporary injunction in May that prohibits interference with development on the site — owned by Ireland-based Kingspan — and several other nearby properties.

Mohawks pulling down fence
Ignoring injunction, Six Nations people stop work at development sites, July 8, 2008

‘Today is the first day of taking back our territory’
Ignoring injunction, native protesters stop work at development sites

Natives ignored a court injunction Monday by marching onto development sites across the city.

Construction was halted at five projects as about 150 native protesters burst onto dusty work sites and ordered employees to shut down equipment.

When the protesters moved along Fen Ridge Court to the construction site for Kingspan Insulation’s new headquarters and industrial plant, they found all the workers, their cars and equipment were behind a locked eight-foot metal fence.

When the worker refused, saying the land belonged to the developers, several natives simply lifted a portion of the metal fence out of its moorings and swung it out like a garden gate. When it toppled, the natives walked over it and swarmed over the enormous property, ranging out to where huge earth-movers were operating and insisting the work stop.

At each site, the protesters waited patiently for the workers to shut down equipment, pack up their tools and move out of the area, often waving goodbye.

Tyendinaga flags & camp
Solidarity with Tyendinaga and Six Nations, May 1, 2008

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attacked the Mohawk people at the Tyendinaga/Deseronto reclaimed quarry on Friday, April 25, 2008, arresting as many as 10 people and pointing guns. Solidarity blockades, actions and demonstrations took place in Six Nations/Caledonia, Akwesasne, Kahnawake, Guelph, Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver over the following four days. On April 26, the OPP threatened to remove by force the blockade of the Highway 6 bypass at Six Nations/Caledonia, but reinforcements that arrived from the reserve convinced the cops otherwise. The OPP backed-off from the Tyendinaga/Deseronto quarry on April 29 and the blockade of the Highway 6 bypass at Six Nations/Caledonia was brought down.

Show of OPP force ends native blockade, April 23, 2008

Native protesters who orchestrated a blockade of a major portion of this town earlier this week dispersed Tuesday morning when confronted by a phalanx of OPP officers.

As well, the developer who sparked the incident pledged Tuesday to stay away from developing any portion of lands involved in the native claim known as the Culbertson Tract.

Protesters are still occupying portions of the disputed land development, most notably at the nearby Thurlow Aggregates quarry along Deseronto Road, which they have occupied since last March.

Development must stop on our land, October 20, 2007

Members of Six Nations staged a 12-hour protest Friday at Henry Street and Wayne Gretzky Parkway, halting construction of a $40-million commercial development.

About a dozen natives arrived at 6:30 a.m., blocking the site entrance to stop workers from driving in. They erected Six Nations flags and signs that read “Six Nations Land” and “Your Lease is Up.” City police monitored the site during the protest, which ended at about 6 p.m.

The First Gulf development was also the site of a Six Nations protest in March, when natives asked for a delay in work until the company met with the Six Nations Confederacy.

OPP arrest nine at Caledonia re-occupation, September 20, 2007

The last pocket of native protesters was cleared yesterday from a residential construction site where a house builder was severely beaten last week.

With neighbours watching and cheering from their back yards, about 50 OPP officers in riot gear marched in and arrested nine men and women who had defied their native elders by refusing to leave the Stirling Street development.

The operation went off without any major hitches and natives watching from the sidelines made no attempt to assist the protesters. It was in marked contrast to the abortive OPP raid at Douglas Creek Estates on April 20, 2006, when protesters with clubs and crude weapons chased off a heavily- armed police tactical team, injuring several officers.

For the first time since last Thursday, when all construction had stopped, other tradespeople had started trickling back in as well.

Even with the large police presence, Gualtieri said his bricklayers were apprehensive and were working much faster than usual.

They had noticed a handful of native protesters poking around a large mound of dirt on the east side of the development where there was a large banner accusing Canada of genocide against aboriginal people.

In the early afternoon, police started setting up checkpoints and roadblocks around the subdivision and told workers to leave for their own safety.

By about 2 p.m., a large number of vans and other specialized police vehicles, plus two canine units, rolled onto the site.

By about 2:30 p.m., there were about 100 officers on the site, including members of Hamilton police, and a large contingent of tactical officers in riot gear.

Gualtieri said he was impressed by the military precision of the operation as he watched the tactical officers suiting up and preparing to confront the protesters.

He added it was empowering to watch the baton-wielding officers tapping their shields in unison as they closed in on the protesters, who had refused to budge when a uniformed officer had asked them to leave a few minutes earlier.

Native protest stalls Brantford project, Sep 5, 2007

A small city developer fears he has lost his financing, tradespeople and suppliers for a $1.2-million, four-duplex development native protesters shut down yesterday.

Mayberry Homes owner Mike Quattrociocchi, a former Brantford city councillor, said several protesters climbed into a foundation hole being dug and sat down in front of a backhoe, effectively stopping work at 11 a.m.

They argued the land is the subject of a land claim.

Blockade stops British company’s midnight entry into tribes’ land

7/1/09 – A blockade mounted by more than 50 protestors stopped British mining company Vedanta entering the land of the Dongria Kondh and other Kondh tribes under cover of darkness last night.

Dongria Kohnd 1

7/1/09 – A blockade mounted by more than 50 protestors stopped British mining company Vedanta entering the land of the Dongria Kondh and other Kondh tribes under cover of darkness last night.

The FTSE 100 company plans to mine bauxite on the Dongria Kondh’s sacred mountain in the state of Orissa, laying waste to the forests they depend on for their survival.

Last night’s action follows high level meetings at the weekend between Vedanta’s billionaire chairman Anil Agarwal and Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who backs the mine. After the meeting, Agarwal told journalists that mining would start ‘within a month or two’.

India’s Supreme Court has approved Vedanta’s plans, but the mine is yet to receive the environmental clearance required for it to go ahead.

The stand-off between local villagers and Vedanta’s bulldozers at the blockade site continues. Protestor Ajun Chandi, who has received a series of threatening phone calls from Vedanta, says, ‘You must let the whole world know what Vedanta is doing.’

The Dongria Kondh have said they will mount armed resistance if Vendanta try to evict them and destroy the forest covered mountains they call home.

rockwool polluting croatia

Rock wool, whilst sold as an eco-friendly product, is a dirty thing to make. In the USA, Erin Brokovich is investigating claims that a now-closed Rockwool Group factory is responsible for the high rate of cancer locally. Meanwhile, the residents of the municipality of Pican, Croatia are protesting against a new factory which was built illegally. The factory regularly floods the valley with thick smoke.

Read their press release below:

Stop Rockwool 2

URGENT APPEAL FOR HELP

In October 2005, Rockwool Adriatic (part of the Danish-based Rockwool Group) bought land in Croatia for 1.98 Euro per m2 – a gift from the Croatian Government, which was falling over itself in eagerness to accept foreign investment, no matter what the future costs would be. Rockwool had already established a headquarters in Zagreb before the land was bought! They do not have to pay ANY income tax for the next TEN YEARS!! The agreement states that Rockwool will be made 10,000 Euros a month if for any reason they are prevented from normal production.

But many facts point to an obious conclusion: The multinational corporation moved in under false pretences. Local residents were initially told a blanket making factory would be built (in the USA, building insulation is labelled ‘insulating blankets’). The site was presented as a greenfield project and there is evidence that the EU is blackmailing the Croatian government to this factory. It is in fact being used to produce rock wool, which is a fibrous solid (an amorphous silicate to be precise) manufactured from slag metal and used as insulation. Whilst undeniably safe as an end product, and ironically enough, praised as an ecofriendly means of insulation, the production process is a dirty one.

The factory was built in Pican, which lies in a region at the top of a large peninsula called Istria (Istra in Croatian). Istria is next to Italy and is a popular tourist location, but for how much longer? Prior to the factory’s arrival, the state offered incentives for rural development and growth. The factory itself is built in the midst of an agricultural area, on protected national water reserves which are the only source of drinking water on the peninsula.

Rockwool’s modus operandi appears to be to produce for 10 to 15 years and then movE on before encountering problems, that is to say, before the consequences of pollution become visible. The impetus in Croatia may be a new EU law that prohibits the use of formaldehyde. Rockwool multinational continues to use this chemical in Croatia, which is still not under EU laws. The factory has transferred parts from Poland, where rumour has it the workers have started getting all sorts of diseases.

In 2007, a complaint was filled against the Rockwool factory by the Inspector for Environmental Protection for using the emergency chimney (in contravention of the Environment Protection Law). In September 2007, a legal complaint was made for breaking the Waste Management Law for improper disposal of waste. Both of these legal actions have failed in the lower courts.

In November 2007, a legal complaint was made for emitting polluting substances into the air – SO2 and ammonium above the the limits prescribed by Croatian (and EU) laws.

Laws were broken or bent to the maximum to get the factory running. There were changes made to the location and construction permit which fundamentally altered the conditions of factory production; but no new Environmental Study was made (July 2008). The factory has no legal agreement on water use – they need vast amounts of water and right now they buy it privately, literally pumping water from an adjacent abandoned business site.

Activists have made independent measurements. The results are shocking, but the state refuses to verify them. The measurements: CO2, CO and methane portions in the air were way above the allowed limits. There was not enough oxygen, whereas CO2 and CO were way above the measured numbers on Rockwool’s “official” measuring stations.

Zdravko Beric, scientist and a director of the firm that did a measuring with a non-pilot flying vessel (his licence is not acknowledged in Croatia although he is one of eight people in Europe that is qualified to make such measurements), stated: K – 40 (Kalij): limiting value 3000 Bk/kg, value measured above Rockwool:11.730 Bk/kg, for Ra – 226 (Radium) limiting value 300 Bk/kg, value measured above Rockwool: 2.570 Bk/kg. He also found 7 hard metals and 29 carcinogenic substances. Further on, salts of nitrates, sulfides, sulfates, acetates of mercury’s compounds antimone and cadmium that fall on the earth contaminate the agricultural area 100%. Consumption of fruit and vegetables containing these substances at 0,53 gr/m2 causes health problems, but WITH consistent exposure, cancer is caused by 1.430 gr/kg of vegetables or fruit. [1]

Beric comments “With this amount of radioactivity we guarantee that in 10 years all the population will start getting ill from throat, thyroid and bronchial cancer, getting skin allergies, and for every month of the factory’s production 10 years of decontamination will be needed.” [2]

Beric’s observations are interesting in the light of the situation in the USA where Erin Brokovich is currently considering a case to sue Rockwool on behalf of 87 people with brain tumours who live near the site of a former Rockwool factory in Cameron, Missouri. [2]

By any intelligent standard, every facility of this type needs to be based on a legal-scientific document – this study was done by the firm Ekonerg, hired by Rockwool and the Environment Protection Ministry. It is full of false data, comprised of incomplete and estimated measurements. For example, the nearest settlements are said to be 3.5 km away, when in fact they are 300 to 500 metres away. The study says that the population resides in this area only temporarily. The data from the cost-benefit analysis are also false. The study was not done by qualified independent scientists who were familiar with atmospheric conditions, geography and demography.

The local community here is spontaneously resisting; the last bigger protest was November 30 (approximately 1000 people) and before that August 31st (1500 people). The entire population of the immediate surrounding valley and hillsides is only 2,500.There are three ecological and environmental associations fighting against it, but it feels like we are fighting something that is bigger than us. The week after the last bigger protest the factory fumed like hell and smelled of urine, firecrackers and sawn iron. The factory works mainly by night, since the smoke is less visible. 200 protestors spontaneously appeared in front of the factory every night until the operation was shut down. Heavy police escorts were deployed to protect the workers and the poice also intimidated protestors. Neighbourhood families coming out in the middle of the cold and rainy night prompted politicians to reinvent themselves as ‘concerned’.

ELF Mexico Sabotage Machines

“December 30:

“December 30:

The exploiters with their big machines lap up the earth leaving deforestation and environmental destruction, replacing the little nature that is left with pavement and monstrous constructions, but the resistance still exists, we have not stopped the wild ones from existing and while the abusers don’t stop wanting to dominate the earth and its inhabitats, we the Frente de Liberación de la Tierra will continue hitting hard.

This time an urban construction machine was sabotaged with most of the cables cut, leaving it unusable and blocking the street until they moved it by other means.

Green anarchists for total liberation!

Wild and radical sabotage!
